    For China, WWII started much earlier than for Europe and the USA. In 1937, the Japanese army fabricated the Marco Polo Bridge incident and used it as a pretext to start a full war against China. Japan already controlled Manchuria, having established a puppet state there, and now its armies moved to occupy the big cities and the Chinese coast. The Nationalist government of Chiang Kai-shek became an ally of Western powers and an enemy of the Axis Powers that included Japan.
