An act or means of sealing off a place to prevent goods or people from entering or leaving

It is used in military terms such as a naval blockade would be the enemy ships blocking entrance to your harbors so you could not get arms, troops or supplies from friendly nations.

As a noun, it means something that's blocking your path. As a verb, it means to block someone from entering/exiting.
