In gibbons vs Ogden (1824), the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government could regulate commerce

    In Gibbons v. Ogden the US Supreme Court decided that Congress had the right to regulate interstate commerce, because of that, states could not interfere with the power of Congress, and could not regulate commerce.
