Jimmy carter as a president in 1976 brought new emphasis on the foreign policy. He was a strong supporter of idea that a country's foreign policy must be a reflection of its highest moral principles which was quite different from the policy of Richard Nixon. He was not in support of the past practice of ignoring human rights of their own allies e. g Rhodesia, Argentina and Iran and so he ended the support given to Nicaragua. According to him, his policy was based on an historical version of America's role and the policy was derived from a larger view of global change.
