Why were Democrats angry after the presidential election of 1876?

Democrats believed that their candidate had actually won.

Democrats thought that the voting system was unfair.

    Democrats thought that Rutherford B. Hayes had lost because he didn't have all the electoral votes, nor did he win the popular vote. So they thought their candidate actually won.
