Voters are more likely to participate in a presidential election than in a primary.

    Explanation:

American voters are way more likely to participate in a presidential election than in a primary, mainly for two reasons:

Most primaries require party registration and affiliation to participate. For example, if you want to take part in the Republican primary, you have to be a registered member of the Republican Party, same for the Democratic primary. Many people simply do not belong to any party, or do have a preference for one party, but are not registered, and for that reason cannot vote. Voters give more importance to the presidential election than to the primary. This is because in the presidential election, the leader of the country is actually elected for the next 4 years, while the primaries are simply the events to choose the possible candidates for president.
