    Farmers or rural America didn't receive many benefits form the industrialization. That is why the Populist Party supported them and the fact that farmers opposed the gold standard. That is when the populists and farmers started a campaign against what they considered to be corruption in the federal government that only made decisions that benefited big corporations and hurt farmers.

    That is why Populists demanded the coinage of silver, they demanded the nationalization of banks, the direct vote of Senators, and that the government took possession of the railroads and all forms of transportation.
