Answer: The Union anaconda plan called for a naval blockade of the confederate littoral, a thrust down the Mississippi and the strangulation of the south by union land and naval forces.
Anaconda plan is a military strategy proposed by union general Winfield Scott early in the American war. The four part of the anaconda plan was adopted in 1862, the parts include blockade the coast, of the south to prevent the export of cotton, tobacco, and other cash crops from the south and to keep them from importing much needed war supplies, divide the south by controlling the Mississippi River to cut the south off from the west, the strategy which actually proved successful.
