Before the french revolution, which group payed taxes to the government?

    During the French Revolution, it was mainly the Third Estate that paid the taxes. The tax system before the Revolutionary, many people such as the bibles and the clergy were exempted from taxes. Therefore, it was up to the peasants, wage earners and business classes, etc that had to pay for them
