I believe the answer is Spain. The Republicans, who supported the Second Spanish Republic, allied with the Anarchists and fought against the Nationalists. a group that was led by Francisco Franco. It was a struggle between democracy and fascism. The war lasted from 1936 to 1939. Ultimately, Franco and the Nationalists won. Franco then ruled Spain for 36 years until his death in 1975.
