    The best reason why the United States was unprepared for the war was because it did not have an adequate and organized army. The United States didn't have enough soldiers; there were only 8,000 soldiers who were young and didn't know much about war. In order to increase the number of soldiers, Congress approved that the soldiers be increased by 25,000; however, only 5,000 men agreed to join. What made matters worse was that the United States had only few warships to fight Britain which had the strongest naval force in the world at the time.
