President Johnson was impeached because of The Tenure of Office Act. He was questioned by Congress that he could not dismiss a cabinet member without the consent of Congress. He removed Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War. However, it did not materialize because of the Senate vote that gave him a higher vote as not guilty.
