After the discovery of the the Lesser Antilles and Cuba by Christopher Columbus, other European countries started exploring North America in an attempt to find "The Indies". John Cabot was commissioned by the England's king Henry VII to explore North America. Also, Portugal commissioned Joao Fernandes Lavrador to explore Greenland besides the Portuguses settlements in South America.

With these discoveries, European empires starting colonizing the north part of America as Spain conquered part of the Caribbian and moved accross South America.
