    Colonization of the African continent was triggered mainly by economic, political, and religious reasons. In the early 1800s, European activities in Africa was very minimal. However, the industrial revolution ushered in new developments in the economic industry during the late 18th century. The industrial revolution was a period in history when there was a rapid growth in the production of goods with the aid of effective types of machinery. The European Countries saw the impact that was made on the economy as a result of the revolution which made them sought for more goods and natural resources in Africa. The European Countries became very much interested in Africa because of the abundance of raw materials and natural resources it had to offer. They began to manufacture goods and export them to the European Countries.

    Explanation:

    As the industrial revolution flourished, the production of consumption of various goods also developed. The economy was on the rise, the market had a wider offer, and with it rose the demand.

    Soon, more the materials were needed, and the producers of the Western countries could not find the supply that meets the demand in their own countries.

    As the economy was much better and the military forces were stronger because of technological and economic advances, countries such as Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, etc. decided to start colonizing areas of Africa and Asia.

    From these areas, they could get the materials and goods needed for the development and consumption, as well a provide new materials which could be considered as exclusive and exotic, and develop more economy around them.
