    Indeed, after the First Continental Congress, Parliament Passed the Tea Act to undersell Dutch tea that was cheaper because it was smuggled into the colonies. Local merchants fiercely opposed this as it went against their financial interests. This lead to the 1773 Boston Tea Party, where colonists disguised as Native Americans boarded the British East India company ships that were anchored outside of Boston and dumped all the tea into the Boston Harbor, which amounted to 10,000 sterling pounds at the time.
