    B

The Berlin conference was held prior to World War I and all the powerful European nations got their piece of the African "pie". Thus began the horrendous exploitation of the natives to collect their homeland's resources. Many existing boundaries were redrawn by the Europeans, causing tribe conflicts; and many of the native populations were worked to death harvesting lumber, rubber, ores, and many of the other natural resources Africa had to offer. Because of this Africa is now a desolate continent with little to no natural resources.
