What kind of ruler was Louis XIV?

    Louis XIV was an absolute ruler. He assumed complete control of all French affairs, limited power of nobles (but consulted them for advice before making decisions), and nobles had local power while Louis XIV controlled state power (basically bribed nobles to his will). He used divine right to secure his rule, too.
