Which led to the division between sunni and shia in the islamic world?

    Shia muslims belived that Muhammad's son in law ALi should become his successor not Abu Bakhr soit was split over who should be a new caliph, however it must be stated that shia islam developed and adapted mostly only in Persia and took many beliefs theology and spiritualy from the zoroastrian religion
