Wat, was the main reason europeans began explring beyond their realms? what did they hope to gain?

European explorers hoped to gain new land for themselves and their country, through this they would gain ritches and more money - become powerful. Many of these things did indeed happen but what more importantly happened was that they discovered both Americas.
