    D) the addition of West Germany to NATO in 1955

    Explanation:

The Warsaw pact was formed to be a counterweight to NATO and also as a result of adding West Germany into NATO in 1955. The Warsaw pact becomes the first step to unify the soviets states. The soviets states consist of Hungary, Poland, Romania and so on. The Warsaw pact was created so that the Soviets states can keep their part of Europe and that the Americans will not take it from them.
