    That is because the world can't be put precisely on a map because the world is a globe. That's why when putting it on a map you have to distort it. This results in countries being much larger than they are and others much smaller then they are. North America, for example, is much smaller in real life compared to Africa, which seems unlikely when you look on a map, but that's because the map is distorted to make it seem more realistic.
