Why was florence considered the preeminent italian city-state of the fifteenth century?

    It was considered to be so because of the Medici Family. This was a famous and extremely wealthy family of bankers and merchants that invested their wealth in artistry and development of the humanities so they made Florence a cultural center of the world and one of the most developed cities out there.
