The Texas Bill of Rights includes a section guaranteeing the state's right to its own state government. Why would Texas's new government decide to include this right in their Constitution? Write a short paragraph explaining what would motivate the founders of our state to try to protect their Texas rights in the U. S.

The sample answer:

They did it because they feared that without a specifically enumerated bill of rights that the government could become tyrannical in the same manner in which the British were tyrannical. They believed that rights of people and states should be written and stated officially instead of just being implied since implied things are easy to exploit and maneuver according to your needs

To the sample answer we have to add the peculiar history of Texas.

    Explanation:

The various flags (6 in total: Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, U. S. and the Confederacy) that have flown over Texas show the turbulent history of the 2nd largest state of the U. S. and explain why this state has always been the American version of the U. K. in the European Union. So this political island in the sea of united states sticks to its Sonderweg position. The fact that Texas was an indepent country (The Republic of Texas, 1836 - 1845) underlines this and gives ample reasons (or excuses, depends on how you want to see it) for the government of Texas to remain sort of independent, but united at the same time.
