    Sam H. Jones won the Louisiana Gubernatorial election through the Louisiana Republican Party. It was virtually non-existent among the southerners due to lack of electoral support between the Reconstruction Era and civil rights movement.

    Sam H. Jones was elected governor on a reform platform after defeating Earl. K. Long to end the long years of control in Louisiana. He focussed on "Louisiana scandals" implicated by the former governor i. e., widespread corruption which was Jones crusade against corruption receiving positive coverage from the state media.
