D. The British East India Company was the one who controlled India for the British in the 1700s.

It was founded in the 1600s, and lasted until half of the 18th century. Siddharta lived before Christ, so A is definitely not correct. The Dalits were the untouchables, which means they couldn't be in charge for sure. A sepoy was a soldier, so he couldn't rule as well.
