The conflict that occurred following the division of Palestine into Jewish and Arab controlled territories in 1947 has numerous causes and effects. Put simply the answer that the "division into Jewish and Arab states led Arbs to feel that Jews were taking their land" is definitely the cause of conflict from the Palestinian perspective, however, the Jewish immigrants would argue that the land belonged to them and was promised to them in the Bible. Each group has a competing claim to the land, but prior to the division the native inhabitants at the time were Palestinian Arabs and and also other ethnic and cultural groups including Jews.
