    John Locke came up with the idea of your basic rights which the government must protect which was life liberty and property. The baron de Montesquieu believed in 3 types of government monarchy (king/queen) dictatorship (dictator) and a republic (elected leader) An Jean-Jacques thought of a social contract theory (social contract) an agreement among people Example: People agree to give up some power for better protection
