Why we're the railroads so important to western settlement in the late 1800s?

    Railroads were so important in the late 1800s for transportation and getting supplies

    Well it's was pretty much the main logical way of transportation besides wagons (trains are faster of course!) On the plus side it got weapons to troops faster.
