The paragraph about Justinian I tells that he was the last king of Byzantia to speak Latin. After that time the empire came under strong Greek influence.     They were more influenced by the Greeks than the Romans because of their location and the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea were added to the Byzantine empire in 133 b. c. Not only that but they had lots of contact with the Greeks, especially when Athens revolted against byzantine.
