The Mycenaean civilization was the first to settle in mainland Greece. This civilization appeared approximately at 1600 BC. Their system of writing was copied from the Minoan Linear A. Their script is called Linear B. The Mycenaean were buried in a sitting position in large circular chambers known as beehive tombs. Jeweled weapons such as daggers and gold masks were often buried together with the nobility. The Mycenaean civilization ended at around 1100 - 1050 BC.
