Rewrite john Quincy Adams diary entry to explain how he felt about the Missouri Comprise. I have favored this Missouri compromise, believing it to be all that could be effected under the present Constitution, and from extreme unwillingness to put the Union at hazard. If the Union must be dissolved, slavery is precisely the question on which it ought to break. For the present, however, the contest is laid asleep.

I believe that under the present circumstances, the right thing to do is to agree on the Missouri Compromise. This compromise is supported by the Constitution and it stops the Union from being subjected to harm. In the event that the Union will be dissolved, the enemy's prime motivation will be about slavery.
