    Karl Marx (1818-1883) was a German thinker who specialized in politics and economy. One of his important theories was materialism. He considered that in an equal society, nobody should be above the other. He established the bases of socialism with Frederick Engels in the book "The Communist Manifesto," in 1884. Those ideas are known as Marxism. Another important work was "The Capital," in which he critiques capitalism as en economic system and the many problems it causes to society.
