Parliament raised taxes on the American colonies in the 1760s because Britain was in debt from the French and Indian War. British merchants had lost many ships in American waters. Britain needed money to gain more colonies in Africa. Britain wanted to build a new capital in the colonies.

    Parliament raised taxes on the American colonies in the 1760s because Britain was in debt from the French and Indian War. As a result of these increases in taxes the american colonists eventually led a massive revolution overthrowing the British authorities in the colonies.
