Would the Manhattan Project have been accomplished so quickly if we had not been at war at the time?

    No. For one thing, the project was rushed to end the war quickly. For another, a lot of the technology was taken from work already done by German scientists, so recreating all that data in America as original information would have been labor intensive and time consuming.
