If the U-2 incident hadn't occurred in 1960 the summit conference in Paris between the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and France might have worked out and have lead to a nuclear disarmament agreement or a slowing of the nuclear arms race and easing of Cold War tensions. However, The U-2 incident greatly increased tension between the US and Soviet Union. Had the event not transpired, the United States and the Soviet Union might have taken steps to resolve their differences in the early 1960s and have ended the Cold War twenty five years earlier.
