Why did spain support columbus voyages of exporation

Queen Elizabeth of Spain had two reasons to fund the expedition. The first was that Columbus promised to bring Christianity to any lands he found. The second was that if Columbus found aa new route to Asia, Spain would grow rich from increased trade.

The main reason why Spain decided to support Columbus' voyages of exploration was because he promised that he would bring gold and spices back from the New World. Another reason was that the Spanish Crown was interested in spreading Christianity.
