    Theodore Roosevelt's negotiations as a mediator between Russia and Japan ended with the signing of the Treaty of Portsmouth, which formally concluded the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905. It was signed on September 5, 1905 after the negotiation that took place in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, near Portsmouth (New Hampshire) in the United States. For his pacifist role, Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906.
