How did Japan respond to the US embargo and freeze on assets? Japan negotiated a temporary moratorium on the sanctions. Japan refused to back down on its stance in Indochina; it prepared for an attack on the US. Japan turned to Germany and Italy; the two countries became a source of oil and military funding. The Japanese military slowed down its movements into Indochina to conserve oil.

    The main way in which Japan responded to the US embargo and freeze on assets was that it "refused to back down on its stance in Indochina; it prepared for an attack on the US" which was one cause of Pearl Harbor.
