Which best describes how Southern slaveholders reacted to the Emancipation Proclamation?

Let me put it to you this way. Lets say you owned a car that took you everywhere you wanted to go. All you had to do is put gas in the tank and keep the engine alive. Then suddenly, the president say that all cars are to be taken away from their owners. Take that anger and times it by 100, and there's your answer.

The south totally relied on the slaves to do all the work for them, including harvesting their most important crop; cotton. Without slaves, the south had no one but themselves to harvest the cotton and other crops by hand. This was way different than their usual lifestyle of luxury and high living.
