    privatization

    Explanation:

During the reign of Boris Yeltsin Russia experienced numerous changes. Some of these changes were the transformation of the economy from command economy to market economy. This meant removal of the governmental control over the businesses and privatization. While the idea was good, the realization turned out to be catastrophic for Russia's economy and society. The prime reason why everything went so wrong was the corruption during the privatization, as well as the power that the mob gained by managing to gain lot of important industries under its command.
