It was also known as the Continental Blockade. After defeating his enemies, Napoleon was now the master of Europe. The only country left to oppose him was England who controlled the English Channel. Unable to cross the English Channel, Napoleon decided to strike at the British through its commerce. He prohibited all countries to do business with England. Though it hurt the British economy, the British were able to maintain its commercial activities. The plan caused resentment among countries which later became a factor in his downfall.
