Answer 1: Establish a strong foundation in North America.

Answer 2: A combat with Spain restricted England from resupplying the colony for 3 years.

    Explanation:

Raleigh spent his own funds to pay for attempting to build a colony at Roanoke Island. England first attempted to establish up communities at Ronoake Island in 1585. This effort was recognized as the Ralph Lane Colony. This settlement abandoned due to dispute with Native Americans and the shortage of food and equipment.

In late 1606, the Virginia Company set to cruise with around 100 male immigrants embarked. On May 24, 1607, their three ships arrived near the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay region on the shores of the James River. Here they established Jamestown, the earliest lasting English colony in the New World.

Roanoke was the first English attempt at a permanent settlement in the New World.

War with Spain distracted the fleet from returning to resupply the Roanoke colony.

Roanoke was established with a mix of men and women in North Carolina. The settlement was running low on supplies so John White returned to England to get more supplies for the colony. While in England, about ready to return to the Roanoke colony, war broke out with Spain preventing the fleet from returning. Three years after leaving, John White returned to the colony to find no trace of the 100 colonists he had left behind.
