The term used to refer to the mass movement of African Americans from states that were located along the Mississippi River to Kansas was called the Exodus of 1879 (sometimes also referred to as the Kansas Exodus and the Exoduster Movement). These people fled from Jim Crow Laws, the Ku Klux Klan and the White Legacy that was dangerous to them and their survival.
