Why was Japan able to isolate itself in the 17th century?

    Tokugawa Ieyasu, a Japanese did not want people to be in contact with Western ideas and traditions; he did not believe in the ideas that Europe had established. He influenced all the citizens and Japan became very isolated during the 16h century.
