Thomas Jefferson wrote in the declaration of independence that a government should be governed by the consent of the people and must protect the rights of the people. The king's attitude towards the colonies was the major reason for declaring independence, the king was not protecting the rights of colonialists and had also prevented the colonial legislatures from enacting laws. It can be said that he wanted to establish tyranny, Tyranny was against both the rights of the people and illegitimate form of government. Hence it became necessary to declare the independence from the king to safeguard the interests of colonialists.
