How did the fact that people began living longer in the colonies affect attitudes toward labor?

    It made owning slaves more valuable than having indentured labor. Indentured labor began to have a higher cost, while owning a slave simply had the cost of either purchasing the slave at the outset or had no cost at all. Having to hire someone from the outside was an outlay that the plantation owner was not willing to undertake.
