Based on the story's outcome and this passage, why is the statement "I wouldn't give her up for nothing on earth" ironic? Mrs. Crater means she wouldn't exchange Lucynell for anything, but in reality she exchanges Lucynell for a car. Mrs. Crater means she wouldn't give Lucynell up for anything, but in reality she does give Lucynell up for nothing. Mrs. Crater means she wouldn't let Lucynell go with anyone who wasn't going to stay around the place.
