Fort Sumter was important because was a strategic location that protected commercial regions of the southern states. The fort is located in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Battle of Fort Sumter represented the beginning of the American Civil War. The Battle started on April 13, 1861, and ended on April 14. The victory belonged to the Confederate Army and the supplies that the Union tried to send to the Fort, were blocked by the southern army.
