A key belief of Calvinism in the 1500s was that some people are picked before birth for salvation.

Calvinism is a system taught by John Calvin of biblical interpretations. This system adheres to a very high view of the Scriptures and seeks to derive its theological formulas based only on God's word.

    Calvinism is known by an acrony T. U. L. I. P

Total Depravity or Total Inability and Original Sin - sin has affected all parts of man; his heart, emotions, will, mind and body

Unconditional election - some are elected into salvation based on God's will in creating them

Limited Atonement or Particular Atonement - Jesus died only for the elect. Those God has elected to be saved before they were even born.

Irresistible Grace - when God calls his elect into salvation, they can not resist His call.

Perseverance of the Saints or known as Once Saved Always Saved - one cannot lose his salvation. Those elected by God, redeemed by Jesus, and applied salvation by the Holy Spirit are eternally secure
