    The answer is D because the slaves were not able to do what they wanted to do. Their masters told them what to do and if they didn't do it they were whipped or punished in a violent way. Its not A because they were not able to do what they wanted to do. Its not B because slaves had no legal rights, which also means that its not C because if they had no rights that means the owners could punish their slaves with any legal punishment.
